"Fishing At Sunrise Beach" The original is 20 x 24 inches on canvas. If you look closely, you are able to see the two wood ducks in the lower left corner. This was john's first painting. It was started in February 2007. john thinks that his many years of photography may have helped him topaint. Also, john started painting because of having a mentor: Fred Broski volunteer to help him. Fred asked john one day if he would like to learn how to paint. john said "yes" before Fred was done with the sentence.

"Lake Louise 2" john was never satisfied with the original painting of Lake Louise. The mountains looked like orange peels to john. Moreover, the waterfall would never cut across the side of the mountain. Here is how john finished the painting. Since Lake Louise 1 was john's second painting, and now Lake Louise 2 is his 13th painting, john can see the improvement in his work after two years (Today's date is April 19, 2009) |

| "Bar Harbor Light - pen & ink" john did this pen and ink drawing several years ago after a visit to Maine. It is a modified version of the Bass Harbor light in Acadia National Park. john took a photo of the light, but the tower was hidden by the shed. john has reversed the two in the drawing. Note also that the drawing is done in three point perpective (lines come together at the three different vanishing points). |

| "Mallard and Dragonfly" This one is 24 x 36 inches. It is an acrylic on canvas. john observes dragonflies darting into the fountain water all of the time. At first, he thought it was like a game for the dragonflies. Later, a Master Gardener told john that he thought the dragonflies looked for food in the water. They would then dart into the water to catch whatever they found there. |

| "After The Play" The original is a 20 x 24 inch acrylic painting on canvas, but may have to be considered mixed media since john has used India ink for some fine lines on the playbill. In addition, he sprayed some reflections with an airbrush using acrylic paints thinned down. Actually, this painting was started with a lot more detail, and really was painted for Marion Ross (Happy Days). She and her friend Paul Michael visited john and joyce's home in September 2006 for a benefit for theatre students. For more about this, click here: www.tntguild.org/tntg_history.html

| "After The Play 2" john altered the original to look like the above. Previously, he had overemphasized the perspective of the second wine glass, so he re-worked the glass to be larger. Actually the second wine glass is smaller, but it almost looks bigger due to the amount of wine left in the glass. It is actually smaller! He also changed the background and added the mirror showing a couple sitting in front of a fireplace. This really is mixed-media for sure now, as john made the changes in oil. The original was in acrylic. Some of the artwork on the show bill is done in India ink. |

| "Bergen, Norway" This acrylic is 24 x 30 and was inspired by a photo john took of a street in Bergen, Norway in 1975. It is a study of the changing perspective of each building as they progress down the hill. john intended to start the painting in acrylic and then change over to oil; however, the painting "asked" to be done in acrylic all the way. john and joyce had just finished a three hour smorgasbord ( a lot of smoked fish, etc). They were walking to the aquirium (of all places) when john saw this street scene, which he photographed. |

"High Mountain Trail" This oil is a 24 x 30 painting totally from imagination. It seems to have a certain ethereal feeling to it. It shows a mother wolf drinking from the stream while her cubs wait patiently for her. john may still paint a small blue butterfly into the painting. The one pup would be watching it. Note: a blue butterfly seems to be becoming john's painting symbol. Like most things, john has no idea why this might be the case. |
