"Fishing At Sunrise Beach" The original is 20 x 24 inches on canvas. If you look closely, you are able to see the two wood ducks in the lower left corner. This was john's first painting. It was started in February 2007. john thinks that his many years of photography may have helped him to paint. Also, john started painting because of having a mentor. Fred Broski volunteer to help john get started. Fred asked john one day if he would like to learn how to paint. john said "yes" before Fred was done with his sentence.

"Lake Louise 2" john was never satisfied with the original painting of Lake Louise. The mountains looked like orange peels to john. Moreover, the waterfall would never cut across the side of the mountain. Here is how john finished the painting. Since Lake Louise 1 was john's second painting, and now Lake Louise 2 is his 13th painting, john can see the improvement in his work after two years (Today's date is April 19, 2009) |

| "Bar Harbor Light - pen & ink" john did this pen and ink drawing several years ago after a visit to Maine. It is a modified version of the Bass Harbor light in Acadia National Park. john took a photo of the light, but the tower was hidden by the shed. john has reversed the two in the drawing. Note also that the drawing is done in three point perpective (lines come together at the three different vanishing points). |

| "Mallard and Dragonfly" This one is 24 x 36 inches. It is an acrylic on canvas. john observes dragonflies darting into the fountain water all of the time at zenpond. At first, he thought it was like a game for the dragonflies. Later, a Master Gardener told john that he thought the dragonflies were looking for food in the fountain's stream. They would dart into the water to catch whatever they found there. Of course, any print of this painting would be without the frame. |

| "After The Play" The original is a 20 x 24 inch acrylic painting on canvas, but may have to be considered mixed media since john has used India ink for some fine lines on the playbill. In addition, he sprayed some reflections with an airbrush using acrylic paints thinned down. Actually, this painting was started with a lot more detail, and really was painted for Marion Ross (Happy Days). She and her friend Paul Michael visited john and joyce's home in September 2006 for a benefit for theatre students. This painting has been modified to that below.
|
|||||||||||||
| "After The Play 2" john altered the original to look like the above. Previously, he had over emphasized the perspective of the second wine glass, so he re-worked the glass to be larger. Actually the second wine glass is smaller, but it almost looks bigger due to the amount of wine left in the glass. It is actually smaller! He also changed the background and added the mirror showing a couple sitting in front of a fireplace. This really is mixed-media for sure now, as john made the changes in oil. The original was in acrylic. Some of the artwork on the show bill is done in India ink. |

| "Bergen, Norway" This acrylic is 24 x 30 and was inspired by a photo john took of a street in Bergen, Norway in 1975. It is a study of the changing perspective of each building as they progress down the hill. john intended to start the painting in acrylic and then change over to oil; however, the painting "asked" to be done in acrylic all the way. john and joyce had just finished a three hour smorgasbord (a lot of smoked fish, etc). They were walking to the aquarium (of all places) when john saw this street scene, which he photographed. |

"High Mountain Trail" This oil is a 24 x 30 painting totally from imagination. It seems to have a certain ethereal feeling to it. It shows a mother wolf drinking from the stream while her cubs wait patiently for her. john may still paint a small blue butterfly into the painting. The one pup would be watching it. Note: a blue butterfly seems to be becoming john's painting symbol. Like most things, john has no idea why this might be the case. |

Prints of this painting are available.
"St. Lucia Women Doing Laundry" This Impressionist painting is based on a photograph john took of women doing their laundry in the ocean in St. Lucia in the Carribean. The people of St. Lucia are VERY poor. john has painted the house much nicer than the one in the photograph. This painting is a 1 1/2 x 24 x 30 acrylic on canvas. |

| "2976" This painting's name resulted from a very indirect happening. john and his pond helper, Eddy, was building a raised garden on 9/11/2001 in which these flowers would later grow. john got a call on his cell phone to go in and turn on the television. When he did, he watched the plane crash into the second tower of the World Trade Center and the tragic results. 2976 people died in the twin towers that day. john dedicated the name of this painting to remember those fallen. This painting is a 1 1/2 x 24 x 30 acrylic on canvas.

| "Mother and baby Pawla" This painting is a result of a contest by the Omaha Zoo to name their new baby Siberian tiger, born on June 22, 2010. When john was asked what name he would give the baby tiger, within a split second, it came to john that the baby tiger should be named "Pawla". Since entries for the name were only being taken at the zoo, john drove 200 miles to the Omaha Zoo to enter the name into the contest. This painting is a 1 1/2 x 24 x 30 acrylic on canvas. P.S.: The baby was not named "Pawla", but was rather named "Isabella" by the zoo. Oh well!
"Out of Plein Air" This acrylic on canvas is 1/1/2" x 24" x 30". john isn't sure why this painting painted itself (john watched as the brush painted the painting). It did start as a plein air art project of a bunch of totally different flowers, but quickly evolved into this. |

"A Christmas Tail" This 1 1/2" x 24" x 30" acrylic on canvas was painted for john and joyce's Holiday card 2010. It was painted from a photo of john and joyce's kitty, tucky, looking under the Christmas tree for his present. Obviously, he was much too early. |

"HARBOUR AT PEGGY'S COVE, NOVA SCOTIA" This painting is a 24" x 30" acrylic and open acrylic (similar to oils) on canvas. It is a result of a trip john and joyce took several years ago to Nova Scotia. There is a light house nearby that john may paint sometime. This painting seems to caught the mood of Peggy's Cove. It is usually foggy. The area is also quite rocky.

| "Indian Maiden " | |||||||||||||
| This painting is a 24" x 30" acrylic painting on canvas. It is purely from imagination. john is viewing the maiden as more of a contempory indian, as original indians were not as tall nor as well adorned. Since the canvas is 1 1/2 inches deep, john has painted the edges of the canvas turquiose. john is 1/8 Sioux. Because of that he jokes that he could start a casino. He also jokes that since he is also of French heritage, at least two people were making love not war during the French and Indian War. |

| "MURREN" | |||||||||||||
This painting is of Murren, Switerland. john and joyce have stayed at a guest house in Murren which looks out into this valley with 12 waterfalls and an entire valley of flowers. At the end of the valley, john, joyce and their good friends Bob and Kathy took a number of trams to the top of the Schilthorn Mountain range. That is where the movie "On Her Majesty's Service" was filmed. They ate at a rotating restaurant there, and Kathy forgot her sunglasses. john and Bob went back to retrieve the sunglasses, but sunglasses were hard to find in a rotating restaurant. john and Bob walked the entire 360 degrees to find them. |

| john
was in the Good Friday earthquake in Alaska (9.2 R., 7 minutes, Anchorage
Alaska, March 27, 1964, 5:37 P.M.) It changed john's life forever! john,
joyce, and her sister and husband, Nancy and Ken, took a cruise to Alaska
several years ago. john was hoping to go to Fourth and D Streets, where
the damage was bad, and find some closure. There is absolutely no sign of
the earthquake now at Fourth and D. john then decided to paint this painting
for some closure. Instead, the quake in Japan happened, and john had to
quit painting this painting. It is nearly completed, and john probably will
never touch it again.

john took a photo of the "Grand Hotel" on MacKinac Island in Michigan. He remembered seeing the movie with Christopher Reeves called "Somewhere In Time". The setting for this love story was at the Grand Hotel in 1912. Because of this, john has set his painting in 1912 also. Please notice the U.S. flags had 46 stars in 1912. |
