1 - john has been observing 10 sets of cardinals
in a tree holding the bird feeder. john has never seen this many cardinals
together, and isn't sure why there are so many. john thought cardinals
were territorial. During the summer there were two families of cardinals
coming to the feeder every evening. The males would fight every time.
john has noticed that everyone is catching onto
using LED Christmas lights this year. john has been watching these for
several years due to LED's low energy costs and safety. If you observe
tail lights on most cars now, they are LEDs. He has purchased about half
of what he needs to convert their Christmas tree. He will purchase the
other half (700 more) after Christmas. The initial costs are higher, but
at least purchasing them after Christmas keeps that reasonable.

3 - Here is the next painting john
is working on called "After The Play". It has a ways to go before
it begins to look good. Never-the-less john is posting it for you to see
as he goes along. To better understand what john is painting, please first
read the following that was posted in last April's journal. |

... or it will be a not-so-still life called "After the Play".
It will include a captain's decantur with some red wine, an empty bottle
of wine, an empty wine glass on the man's side, a half-empty, slightly lipsticked
wine glass on the woman's side, a playbill and car keys on the man's side,
and an orange rose neatly placed on the woman's side. There will be one
piece of eaten rasberry/chocolate dessert (more eaten on the man's side
with crumbs) and two forks. The reflections will show a couple silhouetted
in front of the fire." |

| john has simplified the
painting a lot, but he will still show the playbill and the reflection of
the couple embracing in front of the fire. The decantur, car keys, and dessert
made the painting too busy. |

11 - A major ice storm is coming through the Overland
Park area. john and joyce still have power although many parts of the
greater Kansas City area do not. It isn't bothering tucky much. He is
sleeping on one of john's denim shirts, his favorite. |

11 - john tried to put the reflection of a couple
embracing in front of a fireplace several times. Either the reflection would
overtake the wine glass or you couldn't tell what the reflection was. john
finally decided to imply the embrace with fire light, and to let the viewer
decide what is going on. This also brought the painting back into a more
dignified state. It still has forever to go before it is done. Here is where
it is at the current time: |

14 - The painting is going slowly, but here is the

14 (PM) - john worked on the painting some today.
One thing really bothering him was that the neck of the wine bottle pointed
to the right some, so he straightened it. |
