January 28, 2012 - john is a little early putting up the February journal page, but he wanted the final version of the "Kyoto" triptych ( 3 each 30" high x 24" wide panels of one scene) to show in February. Here it is:

January 30 - john has decided to paint a windmill next. john and joyce visited the Leiden Windmill in Holland many years ago. Here are a few photos john took while there. Please note that a man must climb onto the windmill's blades to cover the sub-structure with cloth (doesn't look like the man has any safety rope anywhere). The blade is positioned so that the man may climb it like a ladder. john thinks the cloth must be stored in the box just beside each blade. john also realizes that the windmill should be positioned so that the wind has the least effect while the man is securing the cloth. john remembers that many different woods (maybe 31) are used for the gears, bearings, etc. inside the windmill. john and joyce were given a one-on-one guided tour inside the mill. Notice the boards attached to the head of the mill allowing one to rotate the windmill into the wind.

February 4 - Here is john's first attempt at painting "Leiden Windmill":
February 5 - Here is what "Leiden Windmill" looks like today:
February 18 - "Leiden Windmill" has been done for about a week. john has started on a new painting that he will call "Koi Pond". Here are both the final "Leiden Windmill" and the start of "Koi Pond":

February 26 - "Koi" may be close to being finished. Here is what it looks like today:
February 26 - john has started on another painting. He is still thinking of a better name than the one most obvious; that one being "St Lucia Beggar". Here is it's beginning:
Feburary 28 - john finished "St Lucian" yesterday. Here is how it turned out:
